The Medicare Hospice Benefit covers end-of-life services related to a patient’s final diagnosis, regardless of where the patient calls home, whether it is a regular residence, a nursing home, or a nursing home. Wherever hospitalization occurs, Medicare Part A covers 100% of all services related to terminal diagnosis.
If a patient’s symptoms cannot be managed at a routine level with hospital care, Medicare Part A also funds additional levels of service, such as 24/7 continuous care or inpatient care, at no additional cost to the patient or family.
